The current Red Bull Air Race Champion Nigel Lamb and Australia’s Red Bull Air Race Pilot Matt Hall are both set to participate in Warbirds Downunder 2015.
Nigel Lamb will be travelling to Temora from the UK to take part in this year’s Warbirds Downunder Airshow joining forces with Aussie Red Bull Air Race Pilot, Matt Hall, who is chasing down Nigel’s crown. Lamb is the current Red Bull Air Race World champion and with two races remaining in the 2015 season, it is impossible to predict the results of this hotly contested race series with Matt currently in outright 2nd position and only 5 points behind the leader. By November the 2015 Red Bull World Series Air Race Championship will have been decided and both Nigel and Matt will be displaying the Temora Aviation Museum Spitfire’s.
Nigel is no stranger to Temora, having first visited in 1993 to coach the Australians who were competing in competition aerobatics. Nigel Lamb is one of the most accomplished and respected pilots in the history of the Red Bull Air Race and proved that patience, perseverance and skill are what it takes to win the World Championship with his title triumph in 2014. He has been an inspiration for many pilots and fans around the world. His determination and meticulous approach to the sport has paid off handsomely with his ascent to the top of the standings during his seven years in the Red Bull Air Race. Nigel is a highly experienced Warbird airshow display pilot having flown a significant number of WWII fighter aircraft throughout his career and is well known for his aerobatic and formation flying as part of the four ship Breitling Fighters Team.
Nigel had this to say about his visit “Temora has a special place in my heart as I was there with the Australian Aerobatic Team some years before the birth of the Aviation Museum. Over the years, I have been privileged to fly both the Mk Vlll and MkXVl. I flew the MkXVl in Wanaka a few times before it joined TAM so it’ll be wonderful to be re-acquainted again. My chances to retain the Red Bull Air Race World title have already disappeared so it’s now a contest between Matt Hall and Paul Bonhomme. How wonderful it would be for Matt to win it so we can have the 2014 and 2015 RBAR champions flying wing to wing over Temora this November!”
Matt Hall has been one of the most consistent and innovative pilots in the Red Bull Air Race, pushing himself and his team forward with a tireless drive to succeed. As a former top gun pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), Matt is constantly challenging himself and his team, always developing new strategies and techniques to get the most out of his MXS-R race plane and applying the same military precision he used to become a decorated RAAF Wing Commander. Admired for his ability to focus under pressure, and his leadership skills, Matt is popular among pilots for his open and friendly style. Matt has long been a supporter of the Temora Aviation Museum and as an experienced WWII Mustang pilot he is the right fit for Warbirds Downunder 2015.
As Matt Hall prepares for the Red Bull Air Race in Fort Worth Texas, he took time to chat about his much anticipated visit to Temora, “I’ve been fortunate enough to fly a number of different aircraft over the years, from gliders, to fighter jets, to race planes and they are all special in their own way,” Hall said, “So too are Warbirds and I am really looking forward to coming to Temora for Warbirds Downunder to get my fix! The aircraft will definitely be the stars of the show that weekend and I feel privileged to be part of it.”
